Medical device technologies continue to advance at an extraordinary rate, and may soon enable procedures once thought impossible, such as remote robotic surgery, monitoring of patients via implanted micro- or nano-sensors, and accurate simulation of patient anatomy for treatment planning.  This seminar will highlight many novel and exciting medical devices and systems that have been engineered for a range of medical disciplines, with guest lectures provided each week by clinicians who guide their development or engineers who create them. Topics will include laparoscopic surgery, robot-assisted surgery, telemedicine, medical imaging, tissue ablation, medical simulation, implantable devices and sensors, and medical rehabilitation.

Lectures will be provided on some of the following topics, pending clinical schedules, with guests from UCSB, the UCLA Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT), and the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC).
