• Grading: Best of two quizzes: 50%; Final exam: 50%
• Quiz#1: Thursday 5 February, 5:00 – 5:50pm
• Quiz#2: Tuesday 10 March, 5:00 – 5:50pm (tentative)
• Final Exam: Friday 20 March, 4:00 – 7:00 PM (1431 Phelps)
• Lecture style: - One 10-minute break at ~4:55 PM,
- At least one good example each lecture
- Use the chalk board for everything except topics that require large matrices (e.g., stiffness matrix) or complicated graphics (3D Wigner Seitz cells)
• Exam style: Closed book, closed notes, but lots of clues. Calculators
required.

Suggested Text#2: “Thermal Physics,” 2nd Ed, by H. Kroemer and C. Kittel , (W. H. Freeman, New York, 1980), an excellent coverage of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.
